In Short
Mechanically sound. Cosmetically challenged. Everything works, but the ARB switches and signals are fussy. Starts, runs, and drives fine. Needs a windshield and tires to be streetable.
The Story
This is a two owner 1984 Jeep CJ7. I am listing it on behalf of a friend, the second owner, who has possessed it for 35 years. I’ve personally known this vehicle for 30 years. It’s done all of the major trails in Colorado and many in Utah, most multiple times. That includes Old Tincup Pass, Iron Chest, Red Cone, Blanca Mountain (before it was shortened), Holy Cross, Battlement Mesa, Black Bear, Taylor, Pearl, Grizzly, Holy Cross, Flat Tops, Imogene, Mosquito, Moab (the Rim, Lions Back, Pritchett Canyon, Poison Spider Mesa); and many more. In all that time, it has never failed to return home under its own power. More than once, it towed a disabled 4X4 home with it.
In the early 1990’s this rig was built up for extreme off-roading while maintaining a semblance of streetability. It was never trailered to a trail, but always driven. The equipment list is below. Major portions of the build were done by Predator 4WD in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Some receipts covering major items are included. The Jeep still goes and stops as it should. Everything still works. The ARB switches and signal light stock are fussy. They need a good cleaning or replacement.
For the last 15 years the Jeep has been doing ranch duty, puttering around on Signal Mountain near Beulah, Colorado. It’s not been idle, but neither has it been overworked. It’s been kept in a loafing shed. It is available for viewing and pick-up in Florence, Colorado.
Take it as is and have a massively capable beater that’s the envy of all your show-and-shine friends, or use it as a foundation for something even better. All it needs is a windshield and tires to be a steetable.
The Bad
It ain’t pretty. If you want an overly capable vehicle to just bang around the mountain in, it’s perfect.
Trail rash, faded paint, peeling decals, dings & dents.
Windshield needs to be replaced.
Footwell has rust holes on driver’s side below the clutch pedal. They are the bright spots in the picture.
Right rocker is rusted through in front of the rear wheel.
ARB switches on the dash are fussy. They need a good cleaning or replacement.
Signal lights stalk is fussy.
The top is showing its age. It still keeps the rain out, but its not as spiffy or airtight as it once was.
The front buckets are not original. What they came out of is unknown. They were picked out of a selection of seats at a salvage yard. They are more comfortable than the OEM short buckets. The rear seat is original OEM.

I encourage you to come see this vehicle in Florence, CO if possible. It starts right up, runs and drives fine. I will do my best to answer questions. I would have bought this myself if I didn’t already own a well sorted 2005 Rubicon.

ARB's are high quality aftermarket locking differentials. Each differential, front and rear, is controlled by a push button switch mounted under the dash. The ARB's are powered by air pressure supplied by a small electric compressor mounted under the hood.
