Tascam 202 MK VII Double Cassette Deck (2019) w/ USB Port, barely used, rackable. Condition is "Used", but only played a few times. The new Tascam 202 MK VII Double Cassette Deck from 2019, with USB Port, is the first quality cassette deck to be issued in many years. It is a dual deck that supports dubbing or simultaneous recording, and some innovative features that make use of the two separate recording decks. Note also the pitch control +/- 12%, which is very useful when practicing parts etc.
Instead of offering high-license-fee Dolby noise reduction or dbx, Tascam chose to come up with their own noise reduction scheme that is mostly compatible with others, so that if you play back encoded tapes they won't sound fluttery. To my own ears, the end result is slightly boomy, but this is remedied by finding an audio input on your interface or pre-amp that has a different impedance, and the ears adjust quickly anyway to the timbral difference. Due to my current signal path and cabling, it sounds balanced.
This tape deck actually sounds cleaner and more noise-free to my ears, than older encoding techniques -- even HX-Pro.
There is a direct USB output jack, which I never use as I have a quality USB audio interface for my computer. But it can be convenient -- especially in mobile situations.
Although rack-mountable, I believe the rack ears can come off if you wish.
This is a robust unit, very well built. I was a bit nervous as I owned a top-end Onkyo Integra unit for a few decades, but finally those parts became unavailable so I went without a tape deck for five years until this model came out.
Alas, I have taken a new job that will pull me away from my tape collection (and most else) for probably a few years (I'll be embedded in the US Navy for much of my work). And as tape decks can jam up if not used at least once a month, it makes more sense for me to part with this barely-used never-exposed-to-smoke deck before I leave.
This is the seventh generation of this tape deck model. Tascam really did a lot of research this time into what features users really care about.
These sell for 0 new.
Depending on the buyer's studio setup, I can throw in a custom-made RCA L/R Y-cable from Mogami with Canare jacks -- a custom job. The other end is a stereo ⅛" jack. I don't need that form factor for anything anymore, but it's a pretty common need these days.
I have set this to a ten-day auction so that those who are going away for the upcoming holiday weekend won't miss it. I forgot to post it yesterday, so if you are bidding on other items, you will probably want to combine shipping and wait a day for this one to end.
